The following are examples of these successes:
$250,000 Settlement in St. Paul Bicycle Injury
Douglas E. Schmidt of the Schmidt Law Firm, Minneapolis Accident Lawyer, recently negotiated a successful settlement for a St. Paul, Minnesota woman who was hit by a semi-truck as she was riding her bicycle at an intersection in St. Paul. She was, at the time, crossing at a cross walk. As she did so, she passed in front of a U.S. Postal Service semi-truck. The trucker was in the process of attempting to make a right turn on a red light and did not see Schmidt’s client. As a consequence, her bicycle was knocked over and she was pushed along the pavement before onlookers alerted the truck driver’s attention to the problem.
The client sustained injuries to her leg which required skin grafting.
The case was a difficult one for many reasons. Principal among them was the fact that the claim was against the U.S. government and had to be brought under the Federal Tort Claims Act which forbids the filing of any lawsuit without first going through the process required by the Act.
Schmidt’s client had no No Fault insurance. Because the truck was owned by the U.S. government, it did not have No Fault insurance.
Despite these and many other obstacles, Schmidt successfully negotiated a settlement without having to take the case to court.

Schmidt Wins Another Bicycle Products Liability Case
The Schmidt Law Firm, Minneapolis Accident Lawyer, has produced a successful settlement for its client in another product liability case involving personal injury suffered in a bicycle accident.
Schmidt’s client was a 14 year old boy who was injured while riding on his bicycle when the front fork “snapped” and he fell forward, causing injuries to his head, face, upper body and groin.
These injuries were caused by the negligence of Pacific Cycle in marketing a defective and unreasonably dangerous product, namely the Conquest, 21 Speed 515 bicycle. This negligence resulted in a tube failure with the collapse of the bicycle which resulted in the injuries to Schmidt’s client.
Schmidt engaged the services of a metallurgist who evaluated the broken parts and determined that this accident occurred as the result of both defective metal and also because of a defective design.
Schmidt has successfully handled other cases of injury due to defective bicycles and mini-bikes. Reports of these other cases can be found elsewhere in this website.
Schmidt Wins Jury Trial Involving Defective Mini-Bike.
The Schmidt Law Firm, Minneapolis Accident Attorney, has produced a successful settlement for its client in another product liability case involving personal injury suffered in an accident involving a mini-bike.
Schmidt’s client was a 12 year old girl who was injured while riding on a mini-bike or trail-bike which had been manufactured in Taiwan. This incident occurred while Schmidt’s client was riding in a ditch adjacent to the roadway. As she went over a small bump, the front forks of the machine separated, causing the front of the bike to dig into the ground. She was sent flying, head-first, over the handlebars of the bike.
Schmidt made a product liability claim against the manufacturer of the machine. The manufacture refused to make a fair offer and the case went to jury trial in Scott County, at the Court house in Shakopee, Minnesota. Schmidt was able to prove, with competent evidence, that an important part had been omitted from the assembly of the front forks of the bike.
The jury decided the case in favor of Schmidt’s client, with a verdict of $125,000.
Settlement Against Italian Manufacturer for Defective Bicycle Injuries.
The victim of personal injuries resulting fom a bicycle accident was the recipient of a successful settlement against an Italian manufacturer. The Italian manufacture had made a part that was used in the assembly of the front forks of the bicycle that was involved in Schmidt’s client’s injuries.
The part failed and the front forks of the bicycle separated, throwing the bicycle rider forcibly to the ground, causing his injuries.
Schmidt undertook to represent this victim and produced evidence that the part that had failed was defectively manufactured. He then brought suit against the Italian company that had manufactured the part. After extensive work, Schmidt was able to produce a settlement without the necessity of taking the case to trial.
